Double or "Half" dynamic ropes are designed and tested to be used as a double rope system, which means that two ropes are used for leading and each single strand of rope is passed alternatingly through every other protection piece, creating two independent belay systems. This is a common system in areas of sharp or irregular rock to reduce occurrences of rope drag or extreme abrasion.
